Five corps members perish in fatal accident

  Five corps members perished in a fatal accident that occurred along the Abaji-Kwali expressway on Wednesday July 28.   A statement released by the scheme says the unfortunate incident occurred around 2pm.    The statement reads ''It is with deep sense of sorrow that the Director-General, Management and the entire NYSC Family commiserate with the families of five Prospective Corps Members that lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident at about 2am today, Wednesday, 28th July, 2021, along Abaji/ Kwali Expressway. The Director-General and Management also condole with the Governments and people of Akwa-Ibom and Imo States over the tragic incident that has left the Scheme devastated. Indeed, it has been a black Wednesday for the NYSC Family. May God grant the families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May their souls rest in peace. Management.''

  News of the demise of singer Sound Sultan, broke earlier today July 11. A statement released by his family said he died on Saturday, July 10 from cancer.   Shortly after the news broke, Nigerians including celebrities took to social media to mourn him, posting photos of him on their pages as they expressed their grief over his demise.    Music executive, Sosoberekon while expressing his sadness chided people who did not check up on the singer while he was sick but are now posting his photos online. He wrote ''How many of you checked on him when you heard he was sick? The news was everywhere. Now everyone is posting now that he’s gone. Rest In Peace @soundsultan you were a very great & amazing guy.''   HIP TV boss, Ayo Animashaun, spotted his post and left a comment, stating that no one has the right to castigate anybody.   Jigawa state governor, Muhammadu Badaru, has said that President Buhari is honest, transparent, and “sleeps with Nigerians at heart.”   The governor disclosed this to Nigerians while speaking at a grand reception held in Yola, Adamawa state on Saturday, July 10 to celebrate the recent decamping of Senator Grace Bent from PDP to APC.   The governor said the Buhari-led administration had made giant strides towards improving road, rail, aviation and power infrastructure, as well as various interventions designed to address social, economic and security challenges in the country “Buhari is honest, transparent and sleep with Nigerians at heart. Nigerians begin to see the effort of Buhari in all sectors and people are now joining the APC in thousands,” he said.

  Lionel Messi’s wait for an international trophy is finally over after Argentina defeated Brazil 1 - 0 at the  Maracanã  in Rio de Janeiro to win the 2021 Copa América on Sunday morning, July 11.   Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the game with a fine lob in the first half after several chances. The PSG star received a long pass from the impressive Rodrigo De Paul, which he converted.     The win also ended Argentina’s 28-year wait for a major trophy, and Brazil’s unbeaten home record that stretched back more than 2,500 days. The victory was also Argentina's 15th Copa America triumph and means they draw level with Uruguay as the all-time leading winners.     For Brazil, it was the first time in 6 editions that they failed to lift the trophy.    'I can't cry yet,' Di Maria said after the match.   The U.S. men’s basketball team lost to Nigeria 90-87 on Saturday night, July10, in its first pre-Olympic exhibition game.   Nigeria who had six NBA players and former NBA head coach Mike Brown at the helm, beat USA, inflicting the country's first ever loss to an African Nation. The landmark victory came nine years after the U.S. embarrassed Nigeria 156-73 at the London Olympics, the U.S.’ biggest win in Olympic men’s basketball history.   That Nigerian team included just one NBA player (Al-Farouq Aminu).   Former CAN chairman in Delta State and the senior pastor of Christ Missionaries Crusaders Church, Archbishop Goddowell Avwomakpa, has found love again.   Avwomakpa got married to his new found love, Lady Sarah from Plateau state, in his church on Saturday, July 10.   His wedding comes one year after the demise of his wife, Victoria Avwomakpa. Late Mrs Avwomakpa died after a long battle with an ailment on June 12, 2020.   Bishop Avwomakpa turned 73 on April 20, 2021.   See more photos from the clergyman's wedding below...

  Lionel Messi ended his wait for an international trophy after Argentina defeated Brazil 1 - 0 at the  Maracanã  in Rio de Janeiro to win the 2021 Copa América on Sunday morning.   Shortly after the game, the superstar footballer shared the special moment with his loved ones. He picked up his phone and FaceTime his family including his wife to celebrate with them.
